St Wilfrid’s Catholic Church in Ripon receives ‘Best Craftsmanship’ Award 2024 from the Ripon Civic Society

Tom Willoughby is proud to announce that our recently completed project for St Wilfrid’s Catholic Church in Ripon has received the Best Craftsmanship Award 2024 from the Ripon Civic Society.

The project began with the first phase of repair, relighting, and redecoration in 2021. In 2023, we progressed to phase two, which included installing a new porch and an accessible toilet. Local architects Purcells, along with joiners Houghtons of York, expertly incorporated tiles, green oak timber, and glass to ensure the new addition seamlessly blended with the existing Grade II* listed building.

The Ripon Civic Society Awards, held biennially, took place at The Workhouse Museum in Ripon this April. These awards celebrate outstanding design, craftsmanship, and environmental projects within the city and its surrounding areas.

Darren Johnson, Managing Director of Tom Willoughby, commented, “We are thrilled that St Wilfrid’s Catholic Church has been honored with the Best Craftsmanship Award 2024 by the Ripon Civic Society. It was a privilege for Tom Willoughby to be involved in the restoration of this historic landmark in Ripon, ensuring its preservation for future generations.”

David Winpenny, Co-Chair of Ripon Civic Society, said, “This year’s Awards again celebrate the variety and skill, not only of the winners but of all who were shortlisted. Congratulations to everyone; we hope, in two years’ time at our next Awards, to see many more schemes that emulate the care, thought and craftsmanship that make this years’ Winners, Highly Commended and Commended worthy recipients of our Awards.”

We would like to congratulate all those who were involved in this special project.
