We are pleased to announce the delivery of a high-quality, tailored extension to Green Lane Primary Academy, in Middlesbrough. As a special educational needs school (SEN), this two-storey extension has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the students, not only enhancing the learning environment, but also provided much needed educating space for both students and staff.

Upstairs, we have created a staff room, office, and a dedicated toilet to ensure a comfortable working environment for the staff. Downstairs, the focus shifted to creating a functional and flexible learning environment. Two classrooms were built, a sensory area designed to offer a calming atmosphere, a therapy room, a fully equipped kitchen, and multiple toilets to support the daily needs of the students.

This project included some distinctive design elements, especially in terms of the layout and aesthetics. The heating and cooling systems, along with air handling pipes, were intentionally designed to remain exposed on the ceilings which provides both an industrial look and an opportunity for practical, visible airflow management.

Downstairs boasts curved walls, bringing a sense of fluidity and openness to the space. To support the school’s specific requirements, we incorporated acoustic slatted wall cladding in key areas to manage sound levels, creating a quiet and more controlled environment for learning. Some walls have built-in coat pegs and benching for added convenience.

Additionally, underfloor heating was installed on both floors of the extension, ensuring an energy efficient and comfortable environment for year-round use. We also worked on creating a block-paved outdoor area that will serve as a dedicated space for outdoor teaching and activities.

This project is very important in our ongoing commitment to providing schools with the infrastructure they need to support diverse educational requirement, and we are excited to see how the new space will benefit both the staff and students.
